Privacy Policy

The short version

• Shops see how far away you are, never your address.
• Shops do not see your name or contact details until you accept their offer.
• You never see which shop made which competing offer.
• We do not sell your data and we do not run third-party ad tracking.
• You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app.

What we collect

You give us

• Email address, name, and password when you sign up.
• Phone number, if you choose to add one for arranging handoffs.
• ZIP code, so we can tell you and nearby shops how far apart you are.
• Your cards: what they are, their condition, and photos you upload of them.
• Business details, for shops applying for a dealer account.

We record automatically

• Actions on the platform — listings created, offers made, deals completed.
• Standard server logs, including IP address, for security and debugging.
• A single session cookie so you stay logged in. No advertising cookies.

Who sees what

While your listing is open: nearby shops see the card, your description and photos, and a distance — “Verified card shop, 12 miles away” in reverse. They do not see your name, email, phone, address, or exact location.

After you accept an offer: that one shop gets your name and the contact details you chose, so they can arrange the handoff. No other shop gets them.

Between shops: a shop can see the amounts other shops have offered on your card, because that is what makes them compete. They cannot see who those shops are.

Your reliability record: whether you complete deals you accept is visible as a rating to shops considering an offer, and the same is true of shops in the other direction. Both sides are judged by the same measure, and the underlying deals stay private.

Who we share with

Service providers that run the product: our hosting and database provider, our email provider, and card-catalog data providers we query for card names, images and market estimates. They process data on our instructions. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with advertisers.

We will disclose information if legally compelled, or where necessary to investigate fraud or stolen property.

Photos

Photos you upload are shown to shops that can see your listing. Check the background before you shoot — a photo of a card on a desk can contain more of your life than the card does.

Deleting your account

Delete your account from account settings, or see the deletion page if you cannot sign in. When you do, we overwrite your name, email, phone number and location on the account, remove your password, close your open listings, and sign you out permanently. The account can never be logged into again.

What survives, and why. Completed and cancelled transactions remain, still attached to the account but with nothing identifying on it. If you sold four cards to a shop, that shop keeps its own record of four purchases, and its reliability rating still reflects them. Deleting your data cannot mean deleting someone else's history of a real transaction they were part of. Backups roll off on their own within 30 days.

Your choices

• See and edit what is on your account at any time.
• Choose whether shops reach you by email or phone once a deal is accepted.
• Delete the whole account yourself, without emailing anyone.
• If you are in a place with statutory access or portability rights, ask us through support and we will honor them.

Security

Passwords are stored hashed, never in readable form — which is why a reset link is the only way back in. Connections are encrypted. Access to production data is limited to people who need it to run the service. No system is perfect, and we will tell you promptly if something affecting you goes wrong.

Children

CounterBid is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

We will update this page as the product changes and date it at the top. Material changes get a notice, not a silent edit.
